Woodie Theme Released
My latest theme: WOODIE is now available for consumption. I know these ‘wood’ background sites are not as popular as they once were but if you can use it feel free. It is a 2-column, widget ready theme using many PNG files. If you are using IE 6 this may be a treat (an ugly treat). I have included the Photoshop PSD and fonts to aid in modifications. As always if there are concerns please reply to this post.

WP CODA ORANGE is based on the fantastic theme by Greg Johnson - WP CODA. WP CODA itself was created to “mimic the functionality of the very popular Coda website - created by .Panic to market their web development tools and services. As Greg states, “Every aspect of the Coda website was duplicated and this theme works in every major browser.”
I found the theme on the ever present Weblog Tools Collection theme release posts. I have added my own twists and simplified the graphic layout so others could take the files I created and make their own CODA theme flavor.

…and how I got rid of the /index.php from my permalink structure for my efforts.
Since I host my site on a Windows 2003 web server I was experiencing the permalink issues reported in the WordPress.org Forums topic 189058.
I added a ‘Category base’ and a ‘Tag base’ on the Settings>>Permalinks page (not what I wanted) and it fixed the issue. As I was searching the WordPress Codex for more information about permalinks and structure tags (%category%/%postname%) I ran across this section in the ‘Using Permalinks’ article: Permalinks without mod_rewrite. It mentioned a solution using 404 redirects that did not require the /index.php in the permalink struture for IIS. I thought this was IMPOSSIBLE - until today. Since I am able to change my 404 error page on my host to what ever I want the custom 404 redirects solution was going to get a thorough test.
I see these things everywhere. On the web, in print, even on clothing. Kind of retro, kind of modern, kind of asian, kind of cool. I found a tutorial I liked and I have rewritten it using Adobe Photoshop CS3 for windows. The Starburst translates well as a background for items in a print catalog as well as an e-commerce website. Take a look at the tutorial that follows. This is a very simple filter based tutorial. On a scale of 1 to 10 I give it a 4 on the difficulty scale.
ENJOY!
Finally the Branded Admin Plugin has arrived. This plugin allows for the application of custom header and footer graphics to the WordPress Admin Section. It also removes WordPress links to better distinguish the site as a custom work and reinforce the sites branding.
I have provided screenshots below of the before and after Admin Dashboard page from my site. I designed two images to create the branding effect I needed. One in the header, reinforcing the header logo from the content side of my site and an icon logo in the footer. Nothing fancy but it carries the logo to the Admin pages very well.
