Hands Free = DWI?
Seems the push by some states requiring hands free cell phone usage isn’t giving the benefit intended. According to a study by the Journal of Experimental Psychology: Applied, drivers are distracted by a cell phone call more than a talkative passenger. It gets worse. The study states drivers talking on a cell phone are as impaired as a legally intoxicated driver. SCARY!!!
There are several software programs aimed at alleviating the “talking while driving dilemma”. Most are easily defeated. GPS is used in many if these programs but they don’t take into account the phones user may not be the driver. It then needlessly locks a phone for the non-driver.
The University of Utah’s article: Drivers Distracted More by Cell Phones Than by Passengers contains videos that demonstrate the affects of a distracted driver by a cell phone call and a talkative passenger. Interesting read/watch.
