Top 5 SEO Myths

SEO CostsAs I was reading my .net magazine issue 195, one of the feature articles is titled ‘Boost your Google Rank Today!’. Great article. If you are a serious web developer/designer or a noob to the arena, this magazine is the best for current information, tutorials and industry vibe there is. The article is very comprehensive and a recommended read. One of the asides in the article – Top 5 SEO Myths – caught my eye and I would like to share the content:

Myth Number 1

Search engine technology is moving too fast: I can’t keep up!
While search engine technology is indeed moving fast, the underlying concepts of SEO remain the same. Create interesting and valuable content on a well designed and developed infrastructure. If you can get that covered, you’re well on your way. The basics will get you a tong way!

Myth Number 2

Submitting my website to the search engines takes forever.
While you can manually submit your site, chances are it will be automatically discovered during a search engine’s indexing process. So just submit main pages once.

Myth Number 3

SEO is dangerous and can get my site taken off the search engines.
While some people still try to trick the search engine, a successful SEO strategy focuses on creating a well formed, useful website. If it’s useful for users and easy to use, you stand a good chance of ranking well.

Myth Number 4

Keyword and description META tags are the most important part of SEO.
While this may have been the case many years ago, the keywords tag is now all but defunct and the description tag is far less important than the actual content and structure of your pages and website.

Myth Number 5

I’ll see results from SEO quickly.
There’s no denying that SEO takes time, but if done correctly the reward can be huge and the return on investment substantial. Develop a monthly review process to monitor SEO performance.

Related Articles on the Net

I also found a few other articles on this topic with slightly different views. Good lists as well. These lists show what a hot bed SEO really is. Do it yourself. Hire the best. The opinions are varied and usually depend on your expertise level with web development. All views are good so take them for what they are worth.
